Exploration

Operated exploration

Vår Energi is building a diversified and balanced portfolio of prospects across the Norwegian continental shelf (NCS). This includes potential targets close to existing infrastructure and new opportunities in less explored areas. Vår Energi has ownership interest in over 100 exploration licenses.

Near-field focused strategy

Our exploration strategy is primarily focused on identifying additional in and near-field drilling prospects in our established assets and field hubs in the Barents Sea, Norwegian Sea and North Sea.

The goal is to extend the production plateau of the existing hubs and add low CO2 and high-margin barrels near existing infrastructure with short time from discovery to production.

Vår Energi will also selectively drill high impact exploration wells which have the potential to open for new standalone production hubs.

We have high ambitions for adding more valuable acreage and material resources to our existing portfolio through organic growth.

Active and forward-looking

We have used a new time-lapse (4D) seismic data from the Balder and Ringhorne fields and developed a multiple-azimuth (MAZ) seismic data set to improve imaging of several identified exploration and infill drilling targets.

We operate an active exploration program in the Barents Sea, aiming to increase the resource base for our operated Goliat field.

Research and development

We conduct tailored research and development (R&D) projects with domestic and international academic and research institutes to maintain our exploration leadership and technical expertise on the NCS.

Vår Energi continues to mature exploration targets for the annual Awards in Predefined Areas (APA) licencing rounds and is building a strong technical foundation for future concession rounds.

Partner-operated exploration

Vår Energi has ownership interest in several of the key discoveries made on the Norwegian continental shelf (NCS) in recent years. The discoveries are being matured and considered for potential development. The discoveries are at various stages in the planning process, and several are expected to be in production within two to three years.

Vår Energi ensures that the full potential of each license is considered by the operator, via constructive dialogue and supplemental technical work, as we see necessary in order to maximise value creation.
