Safety is a prerequisite for everything we do and embedded in our strategies and values. 

Vår Energi’s exploration and production activities are associated with risk of work-related hazards.

The Health and Safety policy outlines the principles and commitments to manage these risks and deliver a healthy and safe working environment.  

Vår Energi operates under regulatory requirements where mainly the Petroleum Act and Working Environment Act concerns health and safety.

Regulations governing health and safety in the Norwegian petroleum industry contain risk- and performance-based requirements.

The industry is regulated through legislation and statutory regulations which specify that all key activities in every phase of oil and gas operations require permits, consents and approvals from the regulatory authorities.

Vår Energi has an ambition to be the safest operator. Our main safety tools are key in delivering on this ambition and we continue to implement these in our operations:

TIR

TIR is a way of working and a key driver for safety culture and continuous improvement. 

Always Safe

Through this joint effort we utilise the strengths of standardisation, increasing the impact in the industry. Always Safe strengthens culture towards zero major accidents and injuries, through industry collaboration and standardisation.

Life saving rules

The rules represent industry-wide best practice in preventing fatalities and serious personal injuries.

Health & safety

Underpinning the policies supporting the Company’s impacts related to health and safety, Vår Energi’s occupational health and safety management system is certified according to the ISO 450001 standard .

The standard provides a framework to manage risks and improve occupational health and safety performance and establishes criteria for an occupational health and safety policy, objectives, planning, implementation, operation, auditing and review.

Key elements include leadership commitment, worker participation, hazard identification and risk assessment, legal and regulatory compliance, emergency planning, incident investigation and continual improvement. 

Reporting

Vår Energi applies Serious Incident Frequency (SIF) and Total Recordable Injury Frequency (TRIF) as targets to monitor performance. These and other health and safety metrics are available in the ESG data site and / or in the Annual Report.

Security

Security is everyone’s duty in Vår Energi, and our employees are one of our most important security barriers. Safeguarding people, assets and operations from malicious threats is a priority, and fundamental for safe, responsible and resilient operations. 

Keeping our assets safe and secure is key for our license to operate and for delivering growth and long-term value. 

A robust security performance is achieved through holistic management of physical, personnel and cyber security risks, continuous improvement of security measures, a strong security culture and an integrated security governance system. 

The Security Policy sets the overall commitments for the security governance in Vår Energi. 

Emergency and Crisis Management

Capabilities for emergency and crisis management are an integrated part of our business and are located at all levels in our organisation. 

We have a robust, efficient and trained emergency and crisis response organisation, consisting of response teams at tactical (1st. line), operational (2nd. line) and strategic (3rd. line) levels. 

To maintain competencies in our response organisation and verify that the response complies to the desired standard, regular training, exercises and assurance activities are conducted. Collaboration with peers on the NCS regarding emergency preparedness and oil spill response is key.
